Attention Smokers & Ex-Smokers | If you have trouble breathing or a persistant cough and are over the age of 40, you may have a disease called Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD. A clinical research trial on an investigational inhaled medication is being conducted and you may qualify. Having trouble BREATHING?
(Living with COPD can be difficult) | The Clinical Research Department is currently seeking volunteers for a clinical research study of an investigational medicine for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (Chronic Bronchitis & Emphysema). To qualify, participants:
- Must have COPD with at least 1 episode of worsening of symptoms in the past year.
- Must be a current smoker or have a history of smoking for 10+ years.
- Cannot have a diagnosis of asthma or sleep apnea.
- Cannot be on oxygen 24 hours per day.
- Must be available for 11 visits over a 56-week period.
Qualifying participants will receive study medications, pulmonary function testing. ECG's chest X-ray, and study-related physician exams at no charge, and receive compensation for time and travel.

Herpes Zoster / Shingles | Wenatchee Valley Medical Center is looking for patients with acute Herpes Zoster (Shingles) to participate in a research study of a new antiviral medication.
Patients must:
- Be 50 years of age or older
- Have a clinical diagnosis of herpes zoster (shingles) as evidence by a rash
- Have pain associated with shingles
- Have not yet received antiviral treatment
- Be enrolled into the study and receive their first dose 72 hours or less from appearance of rash
If qualified and enrolled into the study, patients will receive:
- Antiviral treatment for 7 days (Valtrex or one of two dose regimens of FV-100)
- Follow-up for shingles pain for 90 days
- A small stipend for attending study visits

Migraines? | The Clinical Research Department is currently seeking volunteers for a research study of an investigational medicine to see if it can help prevent menstrually-related migraines in women.
Qualifed participants should be 18 years of age or older and have:
- A menstrual cycle that occurs every 22 to 32 days
- Suffered from headaches during menstrual cycle
- Suffered from at least 2 migraines per month
Participation in this study is voluntary and qualified participants will receive all study-related exams and study medication at no cost. Compensation for study-related time and travel may be available.

Early Rheumatoid Arthritis | If you have early rheumatoid arthritis, you may be interested in learning about the Function Study. When you have rheumatoid arthritis, the lining of some of your joints becomes inflamed. This can cause symptoms and may lead to joint damage. This clinical research study will evaluate the effects of an investigational medication on early rheumatoid arthritis.
You may be eligible for the Function Study if you:
- Are 18 years of age or older
- Have had rheumatoid arthritis for less than 2 years
- Have never taken a medication called methotrexate
If you qualify and choose to participate, you will receive all study medications and study-related medical supervision at no charge during the study.

Osteoarthritis / Rheumatoid Arthritis | Bothered by Arthritis? Concerned about Heart Disease? The Clinical Research Department is conducting a research study of 3 approved medications commonly used to treat pain due to osteoarthritis (OA) or rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in people who also have or are at high risk for heart disease. Qualified participants will receive study-related medical care, regular study checkups, and study medication at no charge.
To qualify you must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have had osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis for at least 6 months
- Have been prescribed regular medication for your pain for at least 6 months
- Have or be at high risk for heart disease, which includes a history of heart attack, stroke, or diabetes

You may be eligible if you:
- Are between 55 and 80 years of age.
- Your blood sugar is not at target levels after:
*At least three months of diet or exercise
OR
* At least three months of treatment with one or more anti-diabetes medications.

Type 2 Diabetes | If you have type 2 diabetes, find out if you qualify for a clinical research study of an investigational oral diabetes medication. You may be eligible if you:
- Are between 18 and 80 years of age.
- Have had type 2 diabetes for at least 3 months.
- Are being treated with metformin and a sulfonylurea (glimepiride, glipizide, or glyburide) and your blood sugar is not well controlled.

Type 2 Diabetes Research | We are currently seeking volunteers to participate in a medical research study evaluating the cardiovascular safety of an investigational diabetes medication when taken with standard medications for type 2 diabetes.
You may qualify for this study, if you are:
- An adult diagnosed with and receiving treatment for type 2 diabetes AND
- Have had an acute coronary syndrome event (heart attack or unstable angina) requiring hospitalization within the last 15 to 90 days.
Study-related tests, and evaluations and some diabetes medications will be provided at no cost to those who qualify.
