School Board Members

WVMC has close ties with education in our communities, as exemplified by the school board members. Kevin Gilbert, Director of Hospital Operations, is a School Board member for Wenatchee School District. Tom Christensen, Personnel professional, is a School Board member for Cashmere School District, and Catherine Stangland, wife of NVFM physician David Stangland, MD, is a School Board member for Tonasket School district.

Q&A with Kevin Gilbert, Director of Hospital Operations for Wenatchee Valley Hospital Surgery Center (WVMC’s Hospital), and a school board member for Wenatchee School District.

 

Question: Choose something academic about Wenatchee School District that people might not know about.

Kevin: One program that is not labeled “enrichment” but is enriching is our dual language program at Lewis and Clark Elementary.  We’ve had great success with that. A lot of parents are choicing into that for their children. It’s been a very successful program. It’s not so much the kids learning English or Spanish, it’s the fact that they grow up together, become good friends. I took one physician’s wife from Michigan to Lewis & Clark Elementary because she wanted to see a dual language school. The kindergartners were learning Spanish. I took her into the class. She asked if the kids really understood what the teacher was saying in Spanish. I said, look at them. They’re following along and repeating back.

 

 

Question: How about the arts?

Kevin:  We did High School Musical in the spring last year. It was a sell out. It’s nice because you’re bringing the young kids in with the older kids. We always mix in an adult actor with it. So it segues into not only the school district, but into the community as well, which<
